One of the founding premises of Misty and Black Academy was to educate and employ a corps of physically fit orphan savant sociopaths. The agents would be untraceable, brilliant, and not squeamish at all when it became necessary to destroy an inconvenient but otherwise decent human being regardless of the punch’s loves, family, or obligations.

Well, we were orphans. All were at least smart, but with astonishing blind spots. Everyone I knew from there, however, had feelings, even Heller. Jaz had them, but appeared to be able to turn them on or off at will unless caught unaware by a well-decorated Christmas tree or the odd feather. As for myself, I had feelings over which I had little or no control. Perhaps we all had feelings.
